One of the best moments from this week, was going for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. A lot has been happening in the world over the past week, and I think it’s important to pay attention. In a season where we are in a pandemic, injustice came to light. Injustice that should have been addressed long ago, yet we still find ourselves in a downward cycle. I know this, black lives matter. This is a season for learning and growth. In this pandemic, it’s revealed that our true connections have come from surface level places. We have learned how to achieve connection, from miles away and communicate our fears and hopes. I believe this has tied into the fact that we have a systemic issue in our nation. It’s been easy to ignore, because our attention has been drawn away so easily. This isn’t an argument on police, it’s an argument on systemic racism, police just have the power of death. We are all seeing the issue and realizing that change needs to happen. We are coming together to believe this, rebelling against the way things “have always been,” because the world cannot go back to “normal.” We need to grow, wake up and see the issue. The truth is, black lives matter because we are all made in the image of God.
